A Photo of Your Cosy Christmas Jumper

So, here’s the thing: I don’t have a Christmas jumper, cosy or otherwise. And, anyway, I’ve translated all these challenges into a book. So I decided for today that I was looking for something that made me feel warm and cosy. My choice fell on Until We Win by Linda Newbery – not because it’s a warm and cosy book. It isn’t. It’s about the campaign for women’s suffrage and the outbreak of the First World War.

Regular readers of my blog will know that I think very highly of Linda’s books as well as enjoying them very much. I first met her at the Carnegie Kate Greenaway awards ceremony in 2004 when her book Sisterland was short-leeted. Over the next few years we worked together at various events and she’s become a friend. Sisterland remains my favourite of her books. It’s not warm and fuzzy either. In fact I don’t think Linda has ever done warm and fuzzy apart from Posy the picture book she wrote with Catherine Rayner and the Cat Tales books for newly fluent readers.

I’ve chosen Until We Win because of the dedication which does make me feel warm inside. It’s what I tried to be.
