A Rom-com Book you’d Like to See Made into a Christmas Film

No apologies. I’m cheating here and discussing two books. The first one is another by Maxine Morrey, the first of hers I ever read and the one that kept me looking for new titles from her. Winter’s Fairytale is a lovely book. It’s warm and welcoming without being overly sentimental or ridiculous. As rom-coms go it’s pretty believable and as Christmas books go it’s not too schmaltzy. Izzy and Rob are the leads who bump into each other unexpectedly just before Christmas. They have history. Rob was best man at Izzy’s wedding-that-never-happened and had to break the news of the groom’s change of mind to her. Izzy’s instinctive reaction was to punch the messenger! So they’ve avoided each other ever since.

I really enjoyed Winter’s Fairytale and have re-read it a couple of times. It would be fun to see it filmed and the setting would be very Christmassy. However, if I had to choose one rom-com to see filmed, it would be Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie. It’s not set at Christmas but it could be easily tweaked for a festive feel. Bet Me is a story about two friendship groups that collide. At the core there is a romance struggling to break through but, for me, the real pleasure in reading it is in sinking into the friendships that already exist and those that develop through the course of the book. I just want to be a part of a group like this one formed by Minerva, Cal and their friends.

  1. I love ‘Bet Me’. In fact, I love almost everything by Jennifer Crusie. I’ve been trying to find another like her for years. ‘Winter’s Fairytale’ sounds fun, I’ll be giving it a look!
