A Chilling Thriller
Thrillers aren’t really my thing unless they’re along the lines of John Buchan’s. Thrillers but in a safe space; whatever the equivalent of cosy crime is. I’m easily stressed by very suspenseful books. I can just about cope with thrillers for young people, though, and that’s what I’ve chosen today.

Dan Smith came to my attention when I hosted a couple of events on his promotional tour for Boy X. They were great events and he was a delight to work with so I read his back catalogue and kept an eye out for new books. So in 2018 I read Below Zero even though it didn’t sound like my kind of book. It’s a thriller set in Antarctica and I have to tell you that it’s brilliant. Dan’s style of writing really engages the reader and he keeps the plot moving along. There’s a bit of tech involved in this one and I have to confess that some of it I let drift over my head! But the story and the characters grabbed hold of me. As did the punishing cold of Antarctica.
